As I write this I'm sitting in the back of laundromat in Buena Vista, CO, 220 miles in on the CT. I met you guys outside of Gorham on my AT SoBo last year and after that started packing things out myself. Some notable carries so far have been a bunch of glass bottles, a dog bowl, and a motorcycle helmet.
I love the work you guys do and you have inspired me to do the same.

Angie Peden organized this clean-up after getting tired of running by trash every day. The trail itself is in pretty good condition but the parking area and the road it is on were in need of some serious help. There were 12 participants, including four kids, who cleaned up over 200 lbs of trash in about an hour. They found glass, Styrofoam, cigarette butts, aluminum cans, a tire, and even a couch (not included in the weight estimate). This was only one small area in the county.

Inspired by the efforts of the Packing It Out team, members of the Exxel Outdoors Outdoor Performance Group took on a major cleanup effort of their own this week in Colorado. The group, which includes Sierra Designs (a proud partner of Packing It Out), Kelty and Ultimate Direction, hit the trails and campsites above Nederland to pick up an area that has gained notoriety in recent months for its trash.
The Nederland area was the focus of a recent New York Times article, which describes how a growing transient population in the surrounding national forests has led to problems with trash on public lands. More than 20 members of the Exxel team participated in this week’s cleanup there, pulling out everything from a freezer door to a dog crate and several suitcases. In total, they hauled out 680 pounds of trash in just a couple of hours.
